Grass Urine Burns

Dog’s urine killing grass is completely natural. This is due to the nitrogen in their urine from the normal breakdown of proteins. When it hits the grass it can ‘burn’ the area they wee on.
A common misconception is that the grass is damaged because of the pH (acidity) of the urine, but this is not true and we’d never recommend giving your dog anything that will upset the natural pH of their urine as this could cause all sorts of problems like infections, bladder stones etc.
Have a look at the methods below to help stop urine scalding your grass, as these methods will not harm your dog!
The most concentrated pee of the day is their first, so you could try to take them out for a morning wee instead of going out in the garden.
If they do use the garden, wash it down with a bucket of water or hose straightaway to dilute the wee to help prevent the burns.
Add more water to your dog’s diet as the better hydrated they are, the more watered down their pee will be naturally!
Another suggestion is to train your dog to use one area to go in the garden to keep the ‘burns’ in one area.
Introduce clover to your lawn. Clover is extremely resilient to the effects of dog pee and won’t turn brown like grass. Clover is technically a living mulch and has many superpowers:
It’s a natural pollinator magnet
Requires minimal maintenance
It’s cost effective as it grows and spreads rapidly
Tolerates tough growing conditions
Fixes nitrogen in the soil for other plants to thrive.
Use Envii Neuturine - Natural bacterial treatment to repair grass that has been damaged by dog urine. The bacteria naturally break down the nitrogen found in urine to repair lawn burn patches, improve grass growth and prevent urine from burning the grass in the future.
