NO BULL
NO BULL Founder
Hi I’m Karla and this is Betty! I’m the founder of NO BULL just natural health for dogs. Betty coming into my life changed everything, she is solely responsible for NO BULL just natural health
being born, without her this crazy journey would never have happened!
So how did it all begin? Betty came into my life in November 2012, a 7wk old tiny pup. I was surrounded by family dogs growing up but Betty was my first dog of my own. I instantly fell crazy in love the second I laid eyes on her! I loved her so so much I was determined to be the very best guardian possible, so made sure i did everything i was advised by my vets at the time, fed her a well know brand of breed specific kibble, made sure her vaccinations were up to date, chemically flea and wormed her, spayed her at six moths old. This was a recipe for disaster and we soon ran into trouble! Sadly Betty has suffered many health issues due to these actions, she has suffered with musculoskeletal issues and behaviour issues, skin problems and she has had horrendous digestive issues, food sensitivities, colitis, acids reflux to name but a few. By the time she was 18 months old she was in a mess! Genetics play some part of course but we know you can influence genes by lifestyle so a lot of these issues are intrinsically linked to how she has been reared, sadly at the time i knew no better and genuinely thought i was doing the best for my girl.
So what changed? I attended a canine nutrition talk in my local area by Caroline Griffith’s when Betty was around 18months old, this is where my journey of discovery and learning began, this was one of many light bulb moments, what i learned there and the many seminars that followed shocked me to the core! I soon realised I’d done everything wrong and in fact caused most of the problems my precious girl was suffering.
I changed everything in Betty’s life, swapping to fresh food, natural flea and worm prevention, titer testing, I changed everything in my home to natural products and even looked at my own health and energy and how this could be effecting Betty.
Betty is under the care of Dr Sue Armstrong, an amazing holistic vet, Alison Daniel from My pet nutritionist who has helped me so much with Betty, Alison really showed me that until you heal yourself you cant heal your dog! Betty also has a chiropractor, Zoe Fossey she sees regularly as well as a physio, Lucinda Stott and a hands on soft tissue therapist Debbie Williams. We also have a great relationship with our conventional vet which is important. Betty is Now 13 yrs old now and of course has some challenges you would expect as dogs age but on the whole she’s doing great!
So how did this transpire into a Facebook group and website??? The more knowledge i gained the more i wanted to help other people with their dogs as I figured if I didn’t know any of this information nor would the average dog guardian, so I started doing canine nutrition and natural health talks in my local area, these went down a storm! I was also a member of lots of dog groups on fb commenting and helping where i could, none of these group really resonated with me, I found people rude and judgmental. So i put a post up on my Facebook joking about starting my own group! The response was huge! DO IT!! I was hesitant at first but decided to do it! From the start I had a very clear vision of what I wanted my group to be like. We would be an educational nutrition and natural health group and very importantly we would be a friendly, a non judgmental supportive group that is a safe space for all to ask questions, get help and learn. I have the most amazing team of moderators that work tirelessly on the group! They are the most selfless wonderful ladies giving their time to help others, without these guys none of it would be possible. We also have lots of canine health care professionals in the group from holistic vets, conventional vets, vet nurses, behaviourists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, homeopaths, energy workers, holistic dog groomers and the UK top canine nutritionist! The group has grown far quicker than we ever expected, on average we grow by around 2000 members a month and have members in 97 countries from around the world.
If only Betty knew what she had started!! The bad decisions I made for Betty are what fuels my passion, what drives me forward each day in the hopes I can save other dogs from her fate. I want to empower people make to make informed decisions on how best to care for their dogs.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
